Questions

Before you join us

I have never played mahjong. Can I still come?

Absolutely — that is exactly who The Nest is for. We will walk you through the tiles, the card and the flow of the game at an unhurried pace, and you will go home with a handout so nothing slips away. Plenty of our guests arrive having never touched a tile.

What is the difference between a beginner class and open play?

A beginner class includes instruction and a take-home handout, so you leave knowing how to play. Open play is for anyone who already has the basics and wants to settle in at a table for a few games. Some events offer both, and you choose when you reserve.

Do I need to bring a set, or a partner?

Neither. Tiles, racks and cards are all provided. Come on your own and we will seat you with a friendly group, or bring friends and we will keep you together.

Who comes to your events?

Everyone. Our tables are open to all ages, from young adults on up. Come with friends, come with your mother or your daughter, or come on your own and leave with a few new friends. If you are wondering whether you would fit in — you would.

How do I reserve a seat?

Click the event above and you will be taken to our booking page. Space is limited at every gathering, so seats tend to go quickly once a date is announced.

What should I wear?

Whatever makes you feel like yourself. Most of our guests land somewhere around Lowcountry casual — comfortable, a little dressed up, and ready for photos.
